High Bar vs Low Bar Squat
Bar position changes the mechanics and muscles emphasised:
- High-bar squat: Bar on upper traps; upright torso; quad-dominant; common in Olympic weightlifting and general fitness training.
- Low-bar squat: Bar on posterior deltoids; more forward lean; greater posterior chain recruitment; typically 5–10% more weight. Standard in powerlifting competition.
